Charlaine Harris Schulz is an American author best known for her The Southern Vampire Mysteries series, also known as The True Blood novels, which have been adapted into the immensely popular HBO series, True Blood. Harris has also penned the Midnight, Texas and Aurora Teagarden series.

Background

Harris was born in 1951 in Tunica, Mississippi. She gained a firm grounding in drama by earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and English from Rhodes College, Memphis. She worked briefly in the publishing industry before getting married. Before she began writing novels, Harris was a poet and a playwright. She decided to try her hand at novel writing and published her first book, Sweet and Deadly, in 1981. She gained fame in the late 2000s with her vampire mystery series, The Southern Vampire Mysteries, featuring Sookie Stackhouse. Prompted by the series' success, HBO adapted it into the popular television series, True Blood. Her other series include The Harper Connelly Mysteries and the Midnight, Texas series.
