Background

Akagawa was born in 1948 in Tokyo, Japan. He grew up in a middle-class home and developed a love for reading at an early age. After finishing high school, Akagawa worked for a publishing company while he pursued his dream to become a writer. His first novel, "The Season of the Hina Dolls," was published in 1972 and became an instant success. The novel was the inaugural winner of the Japan Mystery Writers’ Association Award in 1973. He went on to publish over 500 novels, many of which have been adapted into films, TV dramas, and stage plays. His works, often characterized by wit, humor, and a deep understanding of human nature, have made him one of Japan's most popular and prolific authors.
