Background
Roberts was born in 1950 in Silver Spring, Maryland, the youngest of five children in a family of Irish descent. Both of her parents were avid readers, which helped foster a love of the written word in their daughter from a young age. After graduating high school, Roberts married young and soon had two sons. During a blizzard in 1979, to stave off boredom she started working on a story, marking her foray into writing. In 1981, she had her first novel, Irish Thoroughbred, published. Since then, she has become one of the most successful and respected authors in popular fiction, with over 200 novels to her credit, including standalone novels and her notable series such as The Irish Born Trilogy and The Bride Quartet. She also writes under the pseudonym J.D. Robb for her In Death series.
