Background
Scarry was born in Boston, Massachusetts, USA in 1919. He started his career as an illustrator and freelance artist, and got his break in the children's publishing industry when he teamed up with Margaret Wise Brown after the World War II. He achieved significant success with "Golden Books" series which were affordable and readily available in supermarkets. Scarry's most famous series of books was about Busytown. He has written and illustrated more than 300 books, which have been translated into many languages. His books are filled with a seemingly endless cast of animal characters and detailed drawings depicting a variety of activities, inviting lingering exploration on each page. Scarry died in Gstaad, Switzerland in 1994.
