Background
Riordan was born in 1964 in San Antonio, Texas, where he was raised. He graduated from Alamo Heights High School and then went on to the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied English and History. After graduation, he taught English and Social Studies at Presidio Hill School in San Francisco. He then moved to San Antonio and taught at the Middle School level. He wrote his first novel, Big Red Tequila, in 1997 and it was published the following year. In 2005, he wrote the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series, which was adapted into two movies. He has also written The Heroes of Olympus and The Trials of Apollo series.
