Robert Munsch

Robert Norman Munsch is a Canadian-American author of more than 50 children's books, some of his best-known books include "Love You Forever," "The Paper Bag Princess," "Mortimer," and "Stephanie's Ponytail". His humorous, and sometimes silly style, has endeared him to millions of young readers worldwide.

Background

Munsch was born in 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania into a family with nine children. His interest in writing began during his teenage years when he used storytelling to entertain younger children. He studied to be a Jesuit priest, but decided instead to work with children after spending time in an orphanage as part of his training. He attended Fordham University in New York City and later received a Master's degree in Child Studies from Tufts University in Massachusetts.

In 1975, he moved to Canada and worked at a preschool in Guelph, Ontario, where he began telling his stories to children. His first book, Mud Puddle, was published in 1976. Munsch's style relies heavily on improvisation and his distinctive storytelling has made him one of North America's most beloved children's authors. His best known book, Love You Forever, has sold over 30 million copies worldwide.
